I’m in the infancy of manifesting a work born out of years of thoughts and sketches. It is my hope that this piece will take on a life of it’s own, not only because of the inherent ephemeral nature of the piece but also because of the active involvement of others.
The simplest way to describe the piece is to say “this is not a Shinto Torii” or “Ceci ń est pas une pipe”.
It could be said that some Japanese words are present in my thought process such as Ma, wabi sabi, Kensugi and Yūgen however it is equally true that ideas about quantum physics experiments have also influenced my thinking.
Ultimately the life of the piece is dependent on the thoughts of the viewer/artist, not mine.
Once I have outlined the guidelines of this piece and install the piece in its initial location, the dialogue can begin between the piece itself and nature and with other individuals who will be given permission to interact with the piece on a personal level.
I will intermittently interact with the piece throughout its life and see it through it’s final form and destination.
